Grand Rapids Tow Truck Needed on M-6
When Moving Requires a Grand Rapids Tow Truck
A Grand Rapid tow truck was needed when a move went bad last week. A rental truck spun out on a cloverleaf on M-6 here in Grand Rapids. The father of the five-person family was driving a rental truck from Oregon to settle in Michigan for a new job. A 45-minute rain had brought up some oils on the surface of the road. As he took the cloverleaf, the rental truck lost its traction, spun out, fell over and split open.
About 30% of the contents of the truck lay on the grass – clothes, a washer and dry and various electronics. We got there first, consoled the dad, started to help and even retrieved a replacement truck from the rental company to put in the loose clothes and stuff.
We were soon joined by the Cutleville Fire Department, Michigan State Police and Kent County Road Commission. In true Michigan spirit, we all tried to help out. Thanks to all those who were there.
We brought two heavy wreckers to the accident. The rental truck had been towing a Subaru. To start the recovery we first unattached the Subaru and trailer attached from the rental truck. We then pulled/winched the car and trailer out of the ditch. We then drove it off the trailer. This worked out well as this allowed the Dad to still get around in the car and get some needed supplies while we took care of things. To recover the box truck, we looped a strap onto the front, dual tires of the rental truck. Next, we ran a loop around the back, dual tires Then, we ran a chain around the front axel We pulled it over slowly and got it back on its wheels and then winched it out.
The recovery went great. The family’s belongings on the ground went into the replacement rental truck. We couldn’t get everything else out of the damaged truck as the thick-back, sliding panel was damaged and wouldn’t slide back up.
Again, thanks to the Cutleville Fire Department, Michigan State Police and Kent County Road Commission for all their help.
